As the boats near the cliff on which Hogwarts stands, they sail through an ivy curtain that hides a wide opening in the towering cliff. The boats then sail along a dark tunnel right underneath the castle to an underground harbor with a shore full of rocks and pebbles. Students who are new meet and greet with others and older students here.

Divination is the art of predicting the future. Various methods are involved, including crystal balls, palmistry, tea leaves, Cartomancy (which encompasses the reading of playing cards and the Tarot) and the interpretation of dreams.

| The Black Lake
A lake is located on the south side of the castle. The Hogwarts plumbing network drains into it. A number of magical creatures inhabit the lake, including a giant squid, often seen near the surface, a colony of Merpeople inhabiting the bottom, and a population of grindylows.
